Biography
My wife and I came to Garden City, KS in 2009. Since then we have fallen in love with our diverse community.
It is my goal as a member of the board of education, should our community select me, to guide our district toward reasonable and long term policies that help the community as a whole. Policies should guide large organizations like USD 457, not micro-manage them. Respect for all USD 457 staff and efficient use of funding is key. I hope instill our teachers and other staff with trust and confidence that their needs are being heard.
Nearly my entire time in Garden City has had me working along side the educators in our district. In 2011 I was promoted to Manager of Distance Learning & Technology at Lee Richardson Zoo (then eventually to Curator of Education) and began my partnership with teachers in our local school districts. During this time I researched curriculum and standards to help provide appropriate content with our zoo programs. I also joined site councils in the district to understand the processes of decision making in our education systems at the various levels.
Even after leaving Lee Richardson Zoo to start my business, Buchman Best Behaviors, I continued my connection with the USD 457 School District as a part time substitute teacher further helping my understanding of our education system on a ground level.
